Biomechanical Evaluation of Hole Diameter for Coracoclavicular Ligament Reconstruction on Coracoid Strength

ثبت نشده
چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Many acromioclavicular joint injuries involve damage to the coracoclavicular (CC) ligaments. Some current techniques for CC ligament reconstruction utilize a hole drilled in the coracoid process for placement of a fixation device. Such a hole may increase the probability of coracoid fracture; however, there are no studies in literature that have attempted to evaluate the effects of hole size on biomechanical properties and risk of coracoid fracture in human shoulders. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the differences in biomechanical properties between human shoulders with either a 4.5mm or 6mm hole in the coracoid.

Coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction: coracoid tunnel diameter correlates with failure risk.

The current study compared tunnel diameter as an independent risk factor for fixation failure from the coracoid after transcoracoid coracoclavicular reconstruction. The effect of variation in coracoid size and scapular bone density on fixation failure was also studied. Sixty-two cadaveric scapulae were randomized into 1 of 4 groups: a control group with no coracoid hole, a group with a 4-mm tra...

Acromioclavicular joint injuries: diagnosis and management.

Acromioclavicular joint injuries represent nearly half of all athletic shoulder injuries, often resulting from a fall onto the tip of the shoulder with the arm in adduction. Stability of this joint depends on the integrity of the acromioclavicular ligaments and capsule as well as the coracoclavicular ligaments and the trapezius and deltoid muscles. Along with clinical examination for tenderness...

Bioabsorbable screw fixation in coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the biomechanical properties of stainless steel and bioabsorbable screw fixation of the clavicle to the base of the coracoid. Seven matched pairs of fresh frozen shoulders were prepared by removing all soft tissue except the acromioclavicular and coracoclavicular ligament complexes. The shoulders were randomly selected and fixed with 4.5-mm stainless ste...

Reconstruction of the coracoclavicular ligaments with tendon grafts: a comparative biomechanical study.

BACKGROUND Numerous surgical techniques have been described to address injuries to the coracoclavicular ligaments. PURPOSE To compare the biomechanical properties of tendon graft reconstructions with those of the native coracoclavicular ligaments and various other repair methods. STUDY DESIGN Controlled laboratory study. METHODS Eleven fresh-frozen human cadaveric shoulders were tensile t...

Biomechanical Comparison Between Bashti Bone Plug Technique and Biodegradable Screw for Fixation of Grafts in Ligament surgery

Background: Ligament reconstruction is a common procedure in orthopedic surgery. Although several popular techniques are currently in use, new methods are proposed for secure fixation of the tendon graft into the bone tunnel. Purposes: We sought to introduce our new technique of Bashti bone plug for fixation of soft tissue graft in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and to compar...
